What a day! Pura vida day 2

What a day: first we were weighed before we were to board the tiny plane to tamarind. Then the flight was delayed and then cancelled due to extreme weather conditions. As our flight agent put it, "it's a kinda catastrophe.". So we took a shuttle and endured a torrential down pour, weaving through major accidents and finally finding ourselves in a pitch black power outage after a 5 hour drive to the northern coast. Thanks to our great driver and lady luck striking us as many times as we saw lightning,we're here taking in a luxurious condo right on the beach.

Lucky strikes:
-Airport guy hooked us up with a free shuttle in the event that we could only fly into Liberia.
-After finding out that we couldn't fly out of san jose, el jefe del aeropuerto said that we could negotiate with the taxi drivers for a better price. She asked us not to give away her secret.
-We found out from the driver that even the main san jose airport closed and there were no ins or outs of the country. Luckily we didn't arrive a day later.
-There were several accidents on the road. One was so severe that we were the last to pass through before they closed the road.
-Last but not least we needed to hit up ATM in tow. We happened to see one by chance and asked our driver to turn around. Once we got out of the car, the power went out and we thought we were unable to take out cash to give to our driver. Two beats later the generator of the ATM stand kicked on and we were able to use the machine.
I'm so grateful for our good luck and wonderful experience.
Pura vida!

11.06.09

Thoough still deeply saddened by my loss of the most amazi g pictures I think I've taken, I feel comfort in my awesome new adidas bag. I have my memorries, a few of the pics Michael took and a reason to come back soon.

So I'm on the boat leaving koh Phi Phi now. I'm really going to miss this little island with no roads.

The Pier

From koh Phi Phi we took a boat to The largest island in Thailand, Phuket.

On this resort island we checked in the 4 and a half star Kris Hotel. We picked this hotel mainly for two reasons. Michael wanted to stay in a four star hotel and it was in the northen area closest to the airport. I of course fell in love with the decor so We had to stay there. Appearantly the happening spot was Pattong beach Wichita was a few miles south of Kris. The area we were in was called ban Tao beach. It was a sleepy bayside fishing area that just began offering four star accomodations.

The resort wasn't too shabby with it's three pools, relaxed and quiet atmosphere and the vey attentive staff. I'd say it was more of a 3 and a half star property.

I spent that afternoon exploring the area again by myself and made a few discoveries. There were quite a few shops and restaurants that ran the length of the beach.

Mike and I found the best roadside home restaurant conversion. When we got there we had no idea what to order since there were no menus. We just pointed to what our neighbors had and hoped for the best. What was served was the best fried rice ever.

2010 northstar adventure pics

Each of these cabanas have lovely fire pits inside.

The garlic fries were delicious.

Northstar at Tahoe has some of the best runs in area.

My favorite run of the day was east edge down through the woods and ending up in the Village. This is definitly one for cruising down with your tunes pumping through your earbuds. It has excellent scenery with nicely groomed snow.
